DNA barcoding & the NFSG

The Norfolk Fungus Study Group was formed in November 2000 and enjoyed a somewhat intermittent existence until it was rejuvenated in 2016. Its aims are:
The Group is affiliated to the Norfolk & Norwich Naturalists’ Society and the British Mycological Society.
Forays take place in most months (and more frequently in the autumn) at sites around the county where the objective is to find, identify and record fungi. Where necessary, permissions will have been obtained from landowners for the collection of specimens for identification purposes.
Collecting for eating is discouraged.
At an annual indoor meeting members share their knowledge of identification techniques. Some members are trained to sample fungi for DNA barcoding and have established a laboratory facility for this in Norfolk.
