Record Details

20/05/1977 Blumeria graminis; East Ruston Common; TG3427; Bromus hordeaceus; R.E. Evans; R.E. Evans; "BMS foray"
; Additional NotesAssociation originally recorded as Bromus mollis

28/05/2024 Ustilago bullata; Norwich city; TG230111; Bromus hordeaceus; inflorescence; James Emerson; James Emerson; "Spores slightly verrucose at high magnification, measurements 7.4x10.4 (mean 8.9um) x 9.3x11.8 (mean 10.3um). No sterile cells around the spores."; DNA barcoded; Genbank:PX788601
; Additional NotesGrass ID confirmed by Jo Parmenter. The ITS sequence matches well to both U. bullata and U. tritici but it is virtually impossible to resolve these two species using ITS sequences. However, U. tritici appears only to infect the leaves (not seeds) of its host which appear confined to barley, rye and wheat. In contrast, U. bullata infects the seeds of various species of grasses, most notably Bromus.

13/05/2025 Blumeria bulbigera; Lakenham; TG232065; Bromus hordeaceus; living leaf; James Emerson; James Emerson; "Formerly part of Blumeria graminis agg. Split for the species on Bromus supported by Liu et al (2021) Taxonomic revision of Blumeria based on multi-gene DNA sequences, host preferences and morphology"
